
Jo-Michael
Scheibe is Professor and Program Director of Choral Studies at
the Univ. of Miami where he conducts the University Chorale, coordinates
the choral program, and teaches undergraduate and graduate conducting.
Ensembles under his leadership have sung at state, regional, and
national conferences of the American Choral Directors Association
and the Music Educators National Conference, and performed with
artists including Luciano Pavarotti, José Carreras, Marvis
Martin, and Kenny Loggins.
Dr.
Scheibe is widely recognized for his work with contemporary choral
literature, new music commissions and young composers. Walton
and Colla Voce Music distribute his Choral Series internationally
and he is currently Associate Editor for Walton Music. His ensembles
are recorded on the Albany, Cane, and ANS Labels.
In July 2001, Scheibe concluded his 4-year tenure as Music and
Artistic Director of the Master Chorale of Tampa Bay, principal
chorus for the Florida Orchestra. He subsequently was named Chorus
Conductor of the Florida Philharmonic Chorus. Dr. Scheibe was
the founder of the Long Beach Master Chorale as well as the founding
conductor of the Los Angeles-based semi professional ensemble
Abend Kammer Chor. He has prepared choruses for Sir Colin Davis
and the London Symphony Orchestra, Michael Tilson Thomas, Jahja
Ling, James Judd, Max Valdez, Thomas Sanderling and Alain Lombard.
Dr.
Scheibe received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from California State
University at Long Beach, and his D.M.A. from the University of
Southern California. Before coming to the University of Miami,
he was Director of Choral Studies at Northern Arizona University
in Flagstaff. Dr. Scheibe is an active member in the American
Choral Directors Association. Responsibilities have included Western
Division President and National Repertoire and Standards Chairperson.
He is a member of Chorus America, The International Choral Federation
and several other professional and educational organizations and
is in frequent demand internationally as a clinician, conductor,
and adjudicator. |
